Any type of animal that you take in as a pet will require time from you. This applies also to cats, which are known for being solitary creatures. But all the same, cats need care especially when they are left alone with nobody to let them in and out of the home. Setting up a cat door is a good alternative to having the pet owner be always present at home. Obviously, you have to make sure that the door is large enough for your cat, but small enough for dogs or small children, to avoid nasty surprises.
How Useful Is A Cat Door?
Some cats, if not most of them, will want to go out of the house, and in some cases, this happens at very inconvenient hours. By having a cat door installed, you won’t have to interrupt your work or studies to stand up and let the cat in or out. Your cat can go in and out of the house as desired without your help.
If you have a cat, a dog, or more than one pet, you might want to consider installing a cat door not only on your front door, but also a smaller cat door on another door inside the house. This will give your cat a chance to run to safety if it’s being chased by your big dog, and keep them apart. Also, dogs will eat whatever you put in front of them, including cat food, so if you have a dog and a cat, you can leave the cat food in the other room where the dog can’t reach it.
During harsh winters, your cat could develop frostbite of the nose, ears and foot pads, if left outdoors for a very long time. Also, a cat that can’t go inside the house is vulnerable, and not as keen as it usually is, becuase when it comes home it’s probably because it’s hungry and tired and needs food and rest. By having a cat flap installed, your cat can escape both cold weather and danger from the exterior.
Installing a cat door will make your cat happy and allow it to roam free, and you willl save time and energy. It’s a much better idea than training your cat, which is incredibly difficult to do due to a cat’s solitary nature. This way, you’ll be satisfying your cat needs without any effort from your part.
