First off, you will need to make sure your parrot is snug. This means that the cage should be sufficiently large for the bird to stretch his wings, and should have an attached flight cage so that he would fly around a bit when he feels like it. Get as much parrot cage as you can afford in terms of space and money. Also, realize that the parrot will become extremely sad if he is constantly kept caged. They need ‘out of the cage ‘ time daily.

Next, parrots require a great deal of attention from the individual that they have bonded with. They see this person as their mate, and just as in human relationships, if one party in the relationship isn’t getting plenty of time and attention the relationship suffers - as does the individual not providing the appropriate amount of time and attention, and the individual not getting the time and attention.

Just as you require entertainment, your parrot desires entertainment. This goes past attention. For instance, if your partner is at work, and you are at home, How will you fill your time? If you’re busy with your own things, or at work, how will your parrot fill his time? He needs lots of toys to take the time that he spends alone.

Your parrot needs to feel well in order to be happy. You should customarily check him over for any signs of injury or sickness, and schedule 12 month checkups with his veterinarian. When something does not appear ‘quite right ‘ with your parrot, figure out what the problem is, and if it may be something caused by ill health.

Realize that a clean parrot is a cheerful parrot. Your parrot will enjoy bird baths in his cage, and regular showers in the kitchen sink - or in the shower itself. Keeping your parrot clean also means keeping his cage clean also.

Feeding your parrot good, sensible diet will also help to keep him or her happy. Alaways be certain that he is getting plenty of the right foods. Debate his diet with your vet - and with him. Make it a point to find out which foods he actually likes “and which foods he does not care for.
